When Browning developed a new shotgun design and requested royalties from its potential sales (Browning was earning one-time fees per design up to this point), the Winchester-Browning partnership formally dissolved. During this time, Browning would be responsible for the design of several well-known rifles including lever-action types popularized by the "Wild West". Another rifle design of 1885 was noticed and purchased by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and a new partnership was born. His first personal development became a single-shot falling block rifle. Browning himself was born in 1855 in Ogden, Utah and became learned in the engineering of guns through his father's workshop. The Browning Model 1900 was John Browning's first successful pistol design, further solidifying an already well-respected name in the firearms world.
